Sorry, I think that the the following error posting should have been posted here -

I  am getting the following eror mesage:

Tool Kit Run Time 482 Error - Print Error.

I am unable to print any reports. I just upgraded to a new computer running 64 bit Vista. Is this one of those 64 bit problems I've heard about. Does anyone know a work around? Any chance we will se a Tool Kit 6 which is 64 bit compatible?

Problem fixed. The error was not due to KT6, but rather the print drivers on my HP printer and their incompatibility with Vista 64.

Oops - the "Toolkit6 Run-time error '482' - Print Error" has returned. Apparently it was not the HPprint driver, as I thought earlier. Can anyone HELP. I have a new computer running the 64 bit version of Vista. I can't print any reports from Tool Kit 6.  I have not experience this with any other program. Is there a temporary or permanent fix?

I am also getting run time print errors trying to print from TK6 using windows vista 64 bit. Updated all print drivers for two different printers and still no luck. This seems to be an intermitant problem as I changed TK6 to run in compatability mode for windows XP and got it to print once. Now it is back to print run time errors.

I have a windows xp computer with TK6 installed and have no print problems using the same printers as above.  Any ideas?

The only time I've seen that particular error is when there was no printer attached at all.   Try printing out anything else - say, a MSWord doc - and see if that works.  If it does, we can work on it from there.

I still have the same problem. I am unable to print any reports or anything else in TK6 for that matter. I'm saving paper, but other wise it is a pain in the backside. 64 bit is bcoming more popular and I really think that this is a problem that needs to be addressed in the next up-date. In the mean while, is there some work around. Any way to save the reports as a PDF file and then print? By the way, my printer works fine in all my other applications - like - Word, Excel, Turbotax, etc.

I posted the following message at iclub central this morning:

"When I click on print report, the following error mesage appears - Run Time Error 482; Print Error. When I then click on the "OK" button or close the box by clicking on the "X", the entire program closes.

I suspect that this relates to the fact that I am running 64 bit rather than 32.

I am not experiencing this problem with any of my other programs."

I have been assigned a rracking number. I will post the answer to my question.

Here is some more correspondence on this matter.

Iclub's reply:

Hi Jeff,

Yes, it's the 64 bit that's creating the problem. Go to the web site of the manufacturer of your printer and download and install the most current driver for your model printer. That should resolve the problem you're having.

Sincerely,

my reply:

Irving,

I downloaded updated drivers sometime ago and that did not fix the problem. This print problem does not occur with any other program - so how could it relate to the print driver. In the Toolkit6 discussion forum there was a post - some time back - about compatibility problems with 64 bit. I think that the problem is more fundamental than HP's print driver and that the fix needs to occur in the Toolkit6 programming. I first posted this problem on 1/8/09 in the Infirmary Forum at Stock Central's web site. Since then we than had one or two program up dates and neither address this problem. PLEASE get to the bottom of this issue. I am not the only one experiencing the problem.

We don't officially support 64-bit Vista and so I don't expect there will be any work on the program done specifically for that OS at this point in time. We may continue to support it unofficially in as much as we have the capability to do so. Many users have reported success in using the program on 64-bit Vista.

I would suggest trying a PDF creator such as CutePDF or PDF995 or doPDF and see if you can print to that instead. (Google those terms and you can find those and other free PDF creator programs).

If you have another printer that you can try to connect to your computer, that might help us better diagnose the problem.

Ditto on Jeff - every case we've had reported so far has been resolved by updating the printer drivers directly from the source.

This morning I went directly  to HP's web site to again down load the print drivers for my 7310xi printer. It provided three downloads for Windows Vista Home Premuim 64 bit as follows:

  1. Current Version 16March2007
  2. Update 9April2009
  3. Utility 11May2009

Note that there a several 64 biit options, so you must know which version of Vista is installed. There are also other printer models with very similar model numbers, so take care that you've selected the correct one.

Upon download items #2 and #3 installed. Item #1 did not install because it was my existing HP print driver. I re-started my computer and as of right now the print features of Toolkit 6 works.

I've provided a lot of detail because others are having the print problem. Although HP said I had the correct drivers, apparently item #2 and #3 made the difference.

I am running Vista 64 bit and using a HP C309a series printer.  My HP drivers are updated, but I was still getting the “482 printing error”. In looking through the “Infirmary” I didn’t see my work around solution for the 482 error.  I was able to print out my SSG’s if I turned off my printer’s “spooling”.   This option is found under printers/preference/advance.  Place a dot in the “Print directly to the printer” option.”  You will need to reboot your PC for this change to take effect.

I did install Toolkit 6 using the instruction to make a new Toolkit Folder other then in “program files” and running in the program in “compatibility mode”.

These changes seems to have fixed “all” my Toolkit 6 problems.  Maybe the paid “Techies” can solve these problems in the future updates and save all us users hours of our time fixing problems enabling us to use our time for investing. !!!!

Interesting, this problem comes and goes on my computer. About two months ago I resolved the print problem by reinstalling the HP 7310xi printer drivers and then about three days ago the problem started again. Interestingly the problem reoccurred right after a Microsoft automatic update of Vista. I tried to reinstall the print drivers, but I reveived a message saying that my drivers were already up to date. I uninstalled the existing HP printer software and re-installed it from HP's web site, as though I had a new printer. That resolved the problem. I wonder if the update of Vista might re-set something that then creates the printer problem? It is still strange to me that I only experience this problem with one program - TK6?

I'm going to try the solutions posed by Marie Reale if the problem occurs again. By the way, while I lost my printing capability I was able to copy TK6 reports and paste it in to Word and then print the Word document after making a few column alignment problems.

Thanks for the report, and glad you got it working. We'll add this to the list to help future users on 64-bit Vista.

Thank you for the tip Marie. Once I changed the spooling option it has started to print ok. Hope it continues same. Ref: my previous post.

It happened again. I get the TK6 print error and TK6 shuts down. I tried Marie's solution and that stopped the printer from working on ANY program, so I re-set the print spooling to its original setting and then other programs resumed their printing capability.

I am convinced that the problem is somehow linked to Vista updates, as my computer was automatically updated during the night and this morning the print error reoccurred. I think that something is getting re-set during the update process that causes the problem.

AGAIN, I'm not experiencing this problem with other programs. Come on you great minds out there - what can be happening between TK6 and Vista Updates that causes the printing failure. I'm sure it is a driver problem issue of some sort and the way TK6 addresses the printer. Am I destined to re-install HP drivers everytime I get a Vista update inorder to print a TK6 report???? I would readily like to blame Microsoft and/or HP, but the problem only happens with TK6.

PLEASE HELP! I love TK6, but I can't endure this problem. PLEASE, don't drive me elsewhere!

Here is another piece of information that might provide a clue to the TK6 printer problem.

Every time I open TK 6 I get a dialog box that requires me to check off "Allow" so the program can load. This is a "User Account Control" dialog box. It says that Toolkit.exe is an unidentified publisher. I hope this might give someone an idea regarding my print problem or at least how to tell my operating system - Vista 64 - that TK6 is NOT an unidentified publisher?

Jeff

After I changed my spooling setting, I was able to print out SSg’s for the next couple of days, but,  I again received the printing error message.  In checking my printer setting, there still was a check mark in “Printer Directly from Printer.”  I rebooted and I could again print out my SSG’s.  I too am thinking some “Vista or Windows updating” must have something to do with the printing error to reoccur.

Note: I added a “new printer” name “toolkit printer” with the spooling turned off and I set it as “default” printer when trying to print out SSG’s thus not interfering with my main printer.

I am not expert, but I would doubt the “Allow to run this program” screen would have anything to do with the printer.  I have tried to eliminate the “Allow screen” through my firewall settings, but even though I have checked “Toolkit 6 program” as a authorized program--thus allowing it to run, I still get the “allow this program to run' screen each time I open Toolkit.   I figure Toolkit has some type of coding that doesn’t communicate with my Firewall.   Hopefully Tech support will correct this with on one of their updates as it is just another pain.    Marie

I hate to be a "PITA", but I simply do not think that it is fair to continue to ignore this printer problem. I have tried all the suggested solutions and NOTHING works. I have just spent a half hour removing my H7310 printer software and re-installing it. That has worked before, but no longer. I have NO print capability for TK6 - PERIOD. Of course, my printer works for everyother application on my computer. Again, this is a 64 bit Vista issue. What will happen with Windows 7. Are the problems going to get worse?

From testing so far, 64-bit Windows 7 appears to be much better for TK6 than 64-bit Vista.
