Sometimes, when I download the info to study a new stock in TL5, there is no number given for the analysts' estimate. Now, I have changed the data source in my preferences. I was having some other trouble and reloaded the application. Can anyone tell me which source provides this information?

BTW, I still have the problem that caused me to reload the app. The items on my screen do not line up with the text. If I point my mouse to the home icon, the prompt says 'click here to open the company finder ....' Everything is shifted. I took a screen shot and am attaching it. Its called 'troubled screen' and is a Word doc.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Annie:

- Hemscott SSG data from StockCentral contains no EPS estimate for the next 5 years while S&P SSG data from Better Investing does.

- The website for IClubCentral, the maker of TK5, offers this advice regarding font problems:

The font size set in Microsoft Windows is too large for the software to handle. As a result, the fields contents are pushed out and cover other items on the screen.

  1. Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY > ADVANCED.
  2. Set the font size to 96 DPI, also called NORMAL.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Click OK again.
  5. Sometimes a restart is necessary for changes to take effect.
  6. Start Toolkit again. The display should be fixed now. >>

If that doesn't work, you may want to file a Support Request.

Thanks, Armin. Your suggestion to fix the fonts problem worked. I had changed the dpi selection in an effort to make the items on my desktop more visilble. Things in TK5 are all in their right places, now.

And then I changed the data source. Now, each time I type in a ticker, I get an error message saying 'File appears to be in an invalid format.' Can't import. Any suggestions for this?

Annie,

Log in at StockCentral and see if you can view a data page.  If you can, then the problem is that you've not entered your username and password correctly in Toolkit.  Please check those, noting that you don't enter your email address but you enter the username that you use to login at StockCentral.  Ditto for the password.

This assumes that you want to use the StockCentral data feed!

Annie:

In TK5, go to Preferences ->-> File Locations ->-> Default Data Subscription

Then choose the Data Subscription that you want to use (StockCntral/Hemscott or BI/S&P).  You will have to change that default if you want to change the data you import.

To avoid that, I leave my default alone and go to the website to download data files from the subscription that is not my default.

If you go to Take Stock and look at the TSSW worksheet, you'll be able to locate the EPS growth rate used there. I'd suggest that it's at least as good a number -- I'd say even better -- and the consensus of analysts' estimates. The TS number is likely to be a conservative one, whereas the ACE is probably optimistic.
