INVESTED 2007

MOTHER NATURE GIRDS HER LOINS

The registrations for InvestEd 2007 are pouring in, like the irresistible tide of the Bay of Fundy. A veritable ocean swell of individual investors and investment club members will be crashing down upon the Costa Mesa Hilton from August 17-19, and this reporter will be on hand to document the high water mark for posterity.

Take heed, because slots are going extremely fast -- there are only so many smart investors allowed together at any given time, lest the sheer weight of their collective knowledge cause the Earth to tip off its planetary axis and careen in to the sun. So, register today, before NASA gets involved.

Not only will you learn astrophysics, you'll also learn how to become a more successful investor by attending classes taught by renowned instructors and sharing your ideas with your fellow members of the StockCentral Community. (This reporter will be attending the Newbie Program, because frankly, he doesn't know where to begin.)

Register before June 1, and save $30.

STOCKCENTRAL SCREENER

NOW CALIBRATED FOR MAXIMUM EXCEL-LENCE

The Screener has rapidly become the second most popular feature on StockCentral (third if you count everyone's favourite weekly newsletter), but as someone famous once said, "the easiest way to crush your laurels is to rest on them." Well, there are certainly no vegetative tiaras being clove asunder at ICLUB World Headquarters -- they've recently added a novel little feature to the Screener.

Yes, now you can export your screening results to Microsoft Excel. After generating your screen, simply click on the button above the tabled results, and away you go.

This reporter has learned that the Excel program allows users to make ornamental pictures called "graphs" and "charts" which apparently show data in a visual manner. Such manipulation of raw figures might make the information more palatable to large groups like, say, investment clubs. Hand out your results at your next meeting, and report back with your success stories.

ROOKS TO QUEEN 5

ASK A STOCKCENTRAL EXPERT

Investment Club All-Star Gene Rooks is currently taking your questions in preparation for her upcoming Club Treasurer's Workshop. Beginning on June 4 in The Classroom, she'll answer all those nagging riddles that prospective (and even current) club members and treasurers have:

The visual pun is spectacular

  • How should you handle withdrawing members?
  • What's the best way to manage petty cash?
  • What accounting software makes the most sense for your club?
  • Is the peanut a pea, or a nut?*

We're less than two weeks away, so if you've ever wondered about an aspect of your investment club, now is the time to seek enlightenment. Post your questions today!

*May not in fact be a part of Gene's workshop.

THIS REPORTER HAS THE FIRST PART DOWN PAT

"Wisdom comes from suffering and error -- when the passions die down and the observations begin."
