What do most people here use to track their portfolios including buys/sells,dividends, corporate actions etc..? Right now I'm tracking in Excel spreadsheets created myself but was wondering what tools are out there either for free online or software to buy that would ease my manual trtacking.

I use Fund Manager. It does basic portfolio managing, but also has all kinds of neat features if you care to explore them. You can download it and try it out for a few months before you buy.

If you are really detail oriented, I think that Portfolio Record Keeper from QuantIX (and sold by BI) is a good choice. I'm not sure if it includes a section for detailed note keeping about your stocks. But, if you are also using Toolkit to make your investing decisions, you can record that kind of information in the Notes section.
If you are also interested in keeping your financial records together, then either Quicken or Microsoft Money are useful. They'll also track your investments. Both also integrate with web sites where you can view your portfolios easily and with links to other information. I'm preferring Money to Quicken these days ... |

We recommend Investment Account Manager, made by QUANT IX Software (the same people who make the BI Portfolio Manager). IAM is just $59 but it includes powerful features and reports that you won't find in more expensive programs. You can download a demo and find more information at: http://www.investmentaccountmanager.com/Doug

Thanks Doug. I had downloaded a demo of Portfolio Manager so I now downloaded IAM to compare. Right off the bat I see IAM had a tool to download my current balances from my online account. I thought that was great, but I can't get it to work. I use TDAmeritrade, so first I had to choose whether to pick Ameritrade or TDWaterhouse from the drop-down. It appears Ameritrade is the one to go with. But I entered my info, got a download successful message but no data. I even looked at an actual statement where the account number is a little longer than online and again I got a successful download message but no values. I've tried with dashes without dashes with no luck. Any guesses?

But if you go back to the http://www.investmentaccountmanager.com/ web site and click Contact Us in the Support menu, you can send QUANT IX an email and ask them directly. I'm sure they'll get back to you ASAP. Maybe we can get Matt Willms from QUANT IX to drop by here once in a while, too. Doug

Hi Larry,
We develop Investment Account Manager and have just released the v2.0 (beta). You should have no trouble with downloading your investment activity using TDA. We include many other leading brokers as well. Prior to trying out v2, remove your v1 installation, and be sure to delete the v1 installation folder as well. Then feel free to try the 60 day trial version 2 from our site www.investmentaccountmanager.com.
v2.0 is essentially a clone of our award winning BetterInvesting Portfolio Manager, but designed for folks looking for an alternative. You'll be pleased to know one of the most important differences is that IAM 2.0 is compatible with StockCentral data!
Let me know if you have any questions...
Regards,
Matt Willms, President
QUANT IX SOFTWARE, Inc.

So IAS and PRK are essentially the same except that IAS can use StockCentral datafiles? How do they compare to Quicken?

It's IAM as in Investment Account Manager. IAS is the Investor Advisory Service. But, IAM is similar to PRK. But, PRK has a new name, too. This is a timely question, though. Matt Willms will be presenting a workshop on this software in a couple of weeks. Check the Events calendar ...

Thanks for the heads up - and sorry for the incorrect initials - once you are in the reply mode you can't look back.
