When trying to download the AMMD  data into Toolkit  5 I receive an error that states File Appears to be in an invalid format.  I am able to observe the AMMD data okay when looking at the AMMD on line report at Stock Central. This started since 1/15, since at that time I was able to download AMMD okay.

Dan,

I just downloaded the AMMD file from the data page, and also downloaded Doug's AMMD file from the AMMD forum. Both downloaded fine and I was able to open them in Toolkit.

Can you email me privately the file that you downloaded? (Try saving it to disk rather than downloading it directly into Toolkit.)

This is very strange.  I can download the Stock Central AMMD data, store it to disk and then open it with Toolkit okay.  I now notice I can not import data on any Stock Central stocks into TK directly.  So it is not unique to AMMD.  However, if I switch TK to receive data from SDS data I am able to import okay. So it is somehow unique to Stock Central.

I compared the AMMD data files using Notepad and they both seem to be in the same format.  Of course the question here is what about the files downloaded direcly into TK?

Any idea what to look for?

Have you made any changes to your computer recently?

You might want to check and see if the problem also exists when updating companies from the StockCentral data feed.

I found the cause.  It was because I had User Account Control turned on in Vista/Windows Live One Care.  This prevented Toolkit from directly downloading SSG data files.  Microsoft recommends UAC to be set to on.  Are you aware of any way to have Stock Central data recognized to be okay to download by UAC?  It seems strange SDS data downloads okay with UAC turned on.

Strangely the only program I was aware of requiring UAC to be turn off to operate was MSN Portfolio Manager.  I stopped using MSN PM due to this and thus recently turned UAC on to provide protection. Thus I hope their is a way around this using Stock Central data.

In any case thanks for the tip to remind to check what may have changed.

I haven't yet encountered Vista/Windows Live One Care.

I suspect that the release of Vista and a host of new features and protections will release a lot of worms from a can and many of us will spend a lot of time dealing with them.

That said, I did take a (brief) look at Vista earlier in the spring, and have also been using the beta version of Office 2007. I think that we'll find a lot of good stuff to like, but also a lot of problems to solve. Your discovery probably will be enshrined in the FAQ ...

Dan--

We've actually just started testing Windows Vista here in the office, and the early results are a little discouraging for some of our software. It's also odd that UAC wouldn't work with StockCentral, which is built nearly entirely with Microsoft technology! At this point we don't have any insight into StockCentral data and Vista, but I'll log your note for future reference and see what we might come up with.

Dan,

I'm having problems with Vista and TK - its giving me invalid file format when I go to update companies.  I have already configured it for ICLUB and Stock Central for price/data updates.  And prices updated fine - but data updates - I get the error message.  Very frustrating.

Thanks for your help or input....

Laura,

My guess is that you've got the wrong information entered into Toolkit for your username and password.  These should be the SAME USERNAME AND PASSWORD that you use to login here at StockCentral.  DO NOT user your email address.  Double check these.

You can check that this works by going to the "data" page, entering the ticker AMMD and then clicking the link to get the SSG data.  If you then choose the option to open with Toolkit or the default SSG program, you can assure yourself that you can get the data ok.  If you can't, it may mean that your subscription to StockCentral has expired.  Do you see a note about this at the top of any StockCentral page?

Alright - I've done all that, still no workie. I can get the data okay in TK from Stock Central, so I saved it, then I clicked on update data, and got the file appears to invalid format, Error "5" and then TK closes out.

Subscription is good until Nov 2008
