ICLUBcentral recently needed to make a small change in the desktop version of its investment club accounting program, Club Accounting 3 (CA3). This change was prompted by an update to Windows 10. As CA3 gets older there will come a time when a Windows update will cause a vital function of CA3 to not work. No new desktop accounting program is planned. Clubs will need to migrate to the online version, myiclub.com. If your club is not yet using myiclub.com then it needs to start planning for the change. Fortunately, the importing of data from CA3 to myiclub.com is pretty easy. Treasurers can even practice using a Demo club before importing club data into their myiclub.com account. As a user of the desktop Club Accounting software since 1998 I have been reluctant to move online and away from a very familiar program. I have changed my mind and not just due to the eventual obsolescence of CA3. Myiclub.com has features not available in the desktop version. It has more reports and graphs to help clubs better assess their success and new transaction types which make entering complex transactions easier. This divide will only widen with time. So if your club has not made the change to online accounting, start planning for the change. Exactly when it will happen is partly up to Microsoft and its updates of Windows but it will happen. Better not to be caught off-guard. Also, stay tuned as there is discussion on making the transition even easier.
