Ihave no serious business background. Reading a P&L and other financials is a mystery to me, help.
Here are some places to start on the Internet:
SEC's "Beginners' Guide to Financial Statements": http://www.sec.gov/investor/pubs/begfinstmtguide.htm
Merrill Lynch's "How to Read a Financial Statement": http://ospflor63.stanford.edu/upload/handouts/Merrill_Lynch.pdf
For more detailed explanations, How to Read a Financial Report: Wringing Vital Signs Out of the Numbers by John A. Tracy is excellent but not overly technical.

Joe, exactly where are you in your learning to invest? If you are truly just beginning you might want to go to the library and start with some Peter Lynch books. Learn to Earn, Beating the Street, One Up one Wall Street. Each about twenty years old or more but stand the tests of time.
