This is a rare, but painful thing to run into. After updating company data, a member will go to open a stock from their library, and find that the last full fiscal year has suddenly been reset to zero! While it's possible to get the last full fiscal year back to something current, it's only possible to do this a couple of years at a time. If we lived in the year 20 or 30 AD, this wouldn't be such a problem, but trying to get back to 2012 or 2013 can be a chore, to say the least.

From our experience so far, this happens when trying to update data for a company that is not in our database. This usually happens if you've done manual entry on a stock (ASTV, for example); specifically because you couldn't otherwise get the company data to download for a stock.

If this has already happened, unfortunately the fastest way we have found to correct effected stocks is to start a new stock study for the stock(s) in question.

In order to avoid this in the future, the best thing we have found is that when you perform a data update, and receive a warning about the company not being found, or about a data discrepancy (specifically for a stock that you have done manual entry on, and that might NOT be in our database), choose the 'Do not update this company' option.

Further, if you have multiple companies that are not in the database, you can click the 'Use same choice for all' check-box before clicking OK.

This will ensure that the date for the company does not get reset to 0 on the Annual Data tab.

Again, we've seen this happen a few times, and so far each time has been with a stock that has been entered manually because the company is/was not tracked in our database. If you get a message about a data discrepancy for Aflac, go ahead and update it. If you get a message about a discrepancy with As Seen On TV (ASTV), it will be best to skip the automatic update for that company.
