I was reviewing the July IAS recommendations and decided to look further at ECHO [Echo Global Logistics].  I downloaded the SSG data to Toolkit and started my own SSG. When I went to side 2 I started to notice differences in the data.

IN Section 2 A the IAS SSG has the numbers shown and the Stock Central Data based SSG has different numbers.

Year
2007
2008
2009
2010
2011

1.6
2.2
3.2
3.1

SC SSG

The % ROE numbers are also different

2011

IAS

11.3

SC SSG
8.8
11.1

In Section 3 The EPS are different

SC SSG

Both SSG's indicate the Data is as of FY 2012 Q1 (Ended 3/31/2012) Data Source StkCntrl

The IAS Data Date is 6/4/12, the SC SSG [My Download] is dated 7/03/12.

I checked Morningstar Data, they list as reported, and restated data. The EPS are identical in each.

As you can see the SC SSG data EPS appears to be the same as the Morningstar Diluted EPS.  So where did the IAS EPS data come from?

Our Investor Advisory Service analysts typically review all of the historical data used in our stock studies and make our own adjustments according to our view of what is relevant and what is not relevant. Remember, our analysts are Chartered Financial Analysts, and so you can confidently accept that they apply a "higher" level of scrutiny than is used in a "raw" data service to come up with what we feel best represents "operating" or "core" EPS.

You can often review the company's SEC filings and annual reports to resolve any difference. The footnotes and management discussion will usually reveal the source of differences to aid in your reconciliation.
