THE WHAT CAN SC DO FOR YOU? EDITION 4 AUGUST 2011

WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS DEBT?
Will the Federal Government Keep AAA Rating?

One of the prime indicators that a company — or even a household — is headed for big trouble is when there’s too much debt on the balance sheet. Unless you’ve been living under a rock (and perhaps even if you have been), you know that the federal government has been ensnarled in a debate as to how to handle our incomprehensible deficit.

The bill aimed at reducing future deficits by $2.1 trillion, which was signed into law Tuesday by President Obama, might not be enough to avert a downgrade of the nation's top-notch credit score. How would a downgrade by any or all of the major rating agencies affect our economy in the short term and long term? Meet me, your very concerned reporter, in The Exchange to join the discussion.

WHAT CAN STOCKCENTRAL DO FOR YOU?
Take a Tour and Find Out

Whether you’re a veteran StockCentral member or brand new, a quick refresher might be in order. StockCentral features tools for:

  • Learning how to invest in stocks
  • Screening, analyzing, researching and comparing stocks
  • Getting ideas about stocks to study
  • Tracking portfolios
  • Stock discussions (your reporter is hooked on the SC Forum!)
The StockCentral website is data-rich with more tools than even your most articulate reporter can describe in just a few paragraphs. So she put her thinking cap on and came up with an even better idea: Why not take a tour of the site? Grab on to this opportunity to learn more about all this site offers to investors for less than $50 a year.

GOT QUESTIONS?
The Toolshed Forum Has the Answers You’ve Been Searching For

Speaking of the SC forums, The Toolshed is one of your reporter’s favorites. ICLUBcentral dynamo Sean Pulrang continues to crank out the answers to your toughest software, website and investing tools questions as fast as he gets them.

  • Ever wonder what to do when a company goes bankrupt? (Borders is a recent example.)
  • Curious as to why some stocks will show a Buy or Sell in the Toolkit 6 portfolio summary report, while others don’t show anything?
  • Having trouble printing the online Take Stock version of the SSG?

You can find the answers to these questions — and many more — in The Toolshed. And just as importantly, you can submit your own queries!

Meanwhile, don’t forget that it’s not too late to check out The Workshop forum Sean led earlier this year. Topic: Answers to some of the most commonly asked club questions. Rock on, Sean!

TODAY'S ENTIRELY RELEVANT QUOTATION

"I think as the world watched Congress step up to the edge of the abyss,
it made them really wonder whether this place can work. But this is a good deal.
It's a good agreement."
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
