THE "APPLE" EDITION 20 JANUARY 2011

"APPLE" WON'T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE
Steve Jobs Announces Another Medical Leave

There's a burning question on the mind of your inquisitive reporter:

How does the announcement by Steve Jobs that he will be taking another medical leave of absence affect investors and their outlook on Apple Inc.?

Let's take this a step further. How should it affect investors? Short term? Long term? And, one more: Should it affect investors' outlook on Apple at all?

Your reporter's take on it is this: Certainly at this stage in the company's life, Apple is brimming over with talented people who can and will see the company through the absence of its brilliant leader. The apple, after all, doesn't fall far from the tree.

The financial press seems to agree. According to The Associated Press, "Apple Inc. said Tuesday that its net income for the holiday quarter jumped 78 percent as shoppers snapped up more iPads than analysts predicted. People also bought iPhones as fast as Apple could make them. The strong results were enough to make investors forget, for the moment, the news that CEO Steve Jobs is taking another medical leave of absence."

Rather than focusing on Jobs' absence, it would seem more productive to keep all eyes on the popularity of the company's amazing products. Your very own Gazette reporter was quite delighted to find an iPad under her Christmas tree this year. . . and she's not been able to put it down since. She now finds herself pining for an iPhone . . .

What's your take on Apple, Inc.? Will all eyes be on Apple's products, or Jobs' absence? Stop by the SC Community Apple Forum for a link to the article and a opportunity to post your thoughts.

On to more of this week's headlines . . .

HOW DOES YOUR TREASURER MANAGE PAPER AVALANCHE?
Community Forum Club Workshop Off and Running!

A member of StockCentral's very own Support Staff, Guru Sean Pulrang, is off and running in the Club Workshop in the Community Forum. The hot topic at this writing is how treasurers manage all that paperwork — and Sean's insights on how to integrate the latest technology into time savers for your club's oft-overworked bean counter.

Is your club strictly paper-based, or have you started going digital as well?" Sean queries in his latest post. "If so, any thoughts on why you might not start to leave paper behind, or maybe a story about a time when having that digital copy was particularly useful?"

Jump in and give your two cents. The more we know about what you need to know, the better.

And don't forget — you are invited to post your questions and comments for Sean in the Workshop Forum. Though Sean's last formal post will be Friday, Jan. 20, he'll still be popping in after that date to field questions! Don't miss this opportunity to get the behind-the-scenes skinny. See you there!

TODAY'S ENTIRELY RELEVANT QUOTATION

— Apple COO Tim Cook, who will lead the company in Steve Jobs' absence, commenting on the company's efforts to keep up with sky-rocketing iPhone sales
