THE STOCK DATA EXCHANGE EDITION 11 NOVEMBER 2010

IS CHRISTMAS COMING EARLY?
BetterInvesting, Morningstar Seal the Deal

Seems ICLUBcentral is up to . . . well, all good. In what your reporter deems an early Christmas present, ICLUBcentral has announced that Morningstar will continue to provide the fundamental stock data.

But that’s not all! There are other tricks up the proverbial sleeve! Here’s the er, skinny (sorry, Santa), right from the reindeer’s mouth:

* What is ICLUBcentral announcing?
ICLUBcentral’s parent company, BetterInvesting, has re-signed an agreement with Morningstar in which the company will continue to provide fundamental stock data for ICLUBcentral tools and subscribers. Morningstar data will be used within the ICLUB.com, myICLUB.com, and StockCentral.com websites as well as be available as a data source for Toolkit 6 and other approved uses in software products.

* ICLUBcentral, myICLUB.com and StockCentral.com already use Morningstar data. Why is this a change?
The sector and industry data provided by Morningstar will be updated to Morningstar’s new sector and industry classification system. Analysts’ EPS estimates will also be added to the data source. Also, the data provided by Morningstar will originate from an updated distribution platform within Morningstar’s system, and we believe that this will result in more timely updates to quarterly and annual data in the StockCentral.com data service.

* When is the switchover date?
The transition to the updated data is scheduled for December 15.

On to this week's headlines . . .

SC COMMUNITY ANSWERS THE CALL
The Exchange Is Hot Spot for Debate

Brand-new SC member Wolfgang Spendel posed a question on The Exchange, and the SC Community rallied to his side. (Your faithful reporter had no doubt.)

“One of your questions had to do with how to determine a good price to pay for a stock,” SC Member Bob Adams posted in response. “I put a lot of faith in the PEG (Projected P/E / 5 Year Projected Growth Rate) ratio to determine the fair value of a company. The result isn't related to the historical P/E, which I agree is sometimes misleading.

“I base the future growth on the historical growth — and compare my estimate to the analysts estimate (ACE) from various websites — MSN, Yahoo, etc. Normally, I make sure the estimated growth I use is at least 1-2 percent below the ACE. By the way, I don't use the estimates from Value Line. They don't make sense to me — just a personal thing.

“Since I'm the one to set the future growth rate, I feel comfortable with the PEG ratio. I never buy when it's 1.5 or more, and if in the area of 1.2 or 1.3, want to see "railroad tracks", and increasing growth, when looking at Sales and EPS growth over the past 5 years.”

To be privy to the rest of the banter on the topic, visit The Exchange. Don’t forget to stop by and see what’s new – and who’s said what – in the ever-expanding individual stock forums (listed by Ticker Symbol). Check out our latest additions: Netflix Inc. (NFLX), Coinstar, Inc. (CSTR) and Ford Motor Co. (F) and be the first to post an opinion!
