THE "RATIO ANALYZER WORKSHOP" EDITION 19 AUGUST 2010

THE FINAL PIECES OF THE STOCK STUDY PUZZLE
Bob Adams to Lead Ratio Analyzer Workshop Aug. 23-27

StockCentral Offers Group Discount

Studying the retail and manufacturing industries has always created a challenge for investors, but never more than during the recent recession. That's why getting to know how to use the SC Ratio Analyzer tool is more important and timely than ever before. And who better to learn it from than its creator, long-time investor, instructor, and all-around Stock Guru Bob Adams?

"The Ratio Analyzer provides additional information that the Stock Selection Guide and other analysis tools do not," says Bob, whose Annual Report Spreadsheet was the inspiration — and provided the basis — for the Ratio Analyzer tool. "It looks at, for example, accounts receivable, inventories, and the cost of sales."

StockCentral's exclusive tool will be the focus of a week-long series August 23 – 27 in the StockCentral Workshops forum. Some of the nuggets of gold you can expect to mine during next week's workshop include:

  • What makes the Ratio Analyzer such a powerful and important tool?
  • What stock study resources did Bob call on in the creation of this one-of-a-kind tool?
  • How can your club get the most out of the Ratio Analyzer in its own stock studies?

Bob's tool is a culmination of more than a decade of research. "Over time, the tool has changed," he says. "I've added information and figured out ways to make it more user-friendly."

This workshop, led by Bob Adams and hosted by SC Community Leader Amy Rauch Neilson, will challenge the way you think about stock study and analysis. Bring your thinking hats and your questions to this rare opportunity. See you there!

On to this week's headlines . . .

THOSE PESKY ANALYSTS
Whenever Shall Their Estimates, Toolkit 6 Meet?

Riddle me this, Batman: How often are the Analysts' Estimates for Toolkit 6 updated?

So posted SC Member Martin Eckerle in The Toolshed forum this past week. SC Founder and Stock Guru Doug Gerlach — always on the ball — promptly responded:

"Consensus analysts' estimates would change whenever one of the participating analysts updates his or her estimates. There's no real schedule of when that would happen — an analyst could revise his or her forecast at any point depending on any number of factors.

"Later this year, we hope to add analysts' estimates to our data feed, and then they would be updated whenever you updated your data," Doug added.

Get the latest updates — and read the quip posted by SC Member Danny Matthews — in The Toolshed.

TODAY'S ENTIRELY RELEVANT QUOTATION

"Like the SSG, the Ratio Analyzer doesn't give you a 'yes' or a 'no' on a stock. It gives you 'maybes' — and you have to add your own judgment. But it certainly raises some flags — both good and bad. That's the main purpose."
— Instructor and Investment Guru Bob Adams, Creator of StockCentral's Exclusive Ratio Analyzer tool
