THE "2010 Baltimore Conference Top 10" EDITION 24 JUNE 2010

The 2010 Baltimore Conference Top 10 List
David Letterman's Got Nothing on Them!

Your most observant reporter declares that, when it comes to the Top 10, David Letterman has nothing on the 2010 InvestEd conference. But there's no reason to take her word for it when she's got a better rabbit up her sleeve — the animated and insightful comments from frequent conference attendee Faith Fessenden.

Top 10 Reasons Why the 2010 InvestEd Conference, August 6-8 in Baltimore, Maryland, is the must-not-miss event of the year:

No. 10: The Corporate Sponsors.
"I pick up their materials and do the research at home."

No. 9: The Computer Lab Staff.
"Absolutely wonderful, they are! The lab is a must for anyone struggling with any of the mechanics of the software."

No. 8: The Cyber Cafe Participants.
"This is a great place for lurkers! I'm still a mouse watching from under a chair — but boy, is it fun to eavesdrop!"

No. 7: The Handouts and CDs!
"I know; I know . . . it would take another day of scheduling to spread it out enough so that there aren't any topic or instructor conflicts . . . so I have resolved the dilemma via your wonderful offering of a CD including handouts from each class and additional materials from many instructors."

No. 6: The New Skills!
"New skills? That would have to be a constant honing of what I learned by attending."

No. 5: The Classes! Timely . . .
"Hmmm . . . which sessions? Anything to do with "judgment" since there are nuances that one picks up as one's learning curve increases. And although 'It isn't different this time,' perhaps someone's perspective or tool or site has expanded based on these turbulent times. Also, 'selecting low price' is now increasing in importance for me."

No. 4: The Classes! New . . .
"The 'New Boy on the Block' — 'Employing (appropriate) Technical Analysis' is very exciting! Although I still have my training wheels on with this one, interestingly enough, it makes me review my PERT and quarterly information trends more carefully and studiously. I like the reinforcement each gives the other."

No. 3: The Instructors.
"The instructors are amazing and such an incredible resource. They are our EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) — highly trained, skilled, methodical and efficient — ever ready to resuscitate!"

No. 2: The Attendees!
"Love connecting with and getting to know people I only know 'virtually' from my morning 'whistle stops' — the online forums. In Salt Lake City (InvestEd 2009), I finally got to come face-to-face with a mentor and super-achiever, Lynn Ostrem."

And the No. 1 Reason why the Baltimore 2010 conference is not to be missed? (Drum roll, please . . .)
"It re-energizes, re-focuses, un-sticks and makes us independents realize we really are part of something enveloping, supportive and ongoing."

You haven't missed the boat yet — but this ship will soon be sailing, so don't delay! Register for InvestEd 2010 today!

BUY, SELL, OR HOLD?
SC Members Chime in on BI Top Ten

It's been a busy week in the StockCentral forum, where SC Members have been bantering about the BI Top Ten Most Active on The Exchange. "Anybody buying these now?" queries Danny Matthews.

Indeed, they are.

  • "Recently bought: EBIX, ABT, GPN, GILD, had SKY for a while," notes SC member Jack Hills. "I now have 14, which is maybe too many. I plan to be buying on balance until S&P 1450."
  • "My club just bought EBIX," says SC Founder Doug Gerlach.
  • "Of the 10 listed, I have EBIX, GILD, TEVA, and MON," SC Member Joseph McCarthy posted June 19. "I'm not sure about GPN yet. Instead of WAG, I have CVS and I saw today that CVS Caremark and Walgreens settled their prescription plan dispute. Both stocks bounced a bit after the announcement."

What's your take on the BI Top Ten Most Active? Buy? Sell? Hold? Ignore?

On to this week's headlines . . .

TODAY'S ENTIRELY RELEVANT QUOTATION

"If things stay where they are now, the Fed will be reasonably happy. Panic in the markets is what they're really worried about."
