Dear Investor,

With every new release of a software program, there are always a few problems that pop up that somehow got by the testing process.

We're happy to announce the release of Toolkit version 6.1, with a number of enhancements and fixes that make the program more stable and easier to use. If you've been waiting for the kinks to get worked out of the program, now's the time to upgrade to the power of Toolkit 6!

Here's a brief list of the changes in Toolkit 6.1:

Cash Flow per Share and Long-Term Debt can now be displayed on the historical graph along with the other optional items (Shares Outstanding, Dividends, Book Value, and Net Income). This gives you even greater analytical insight into a company's history, allowing you to focus on changes in a company's cash flow and trends in long-term debt.

Here's a tip: For companies that you already have in your database, you'll need to update the data in order to download and save the data for these items before you can view them on the graph. You can also enter and edit these new historical data series manually in the Data entry screen.

In the Library, the date that the Complete Roster of Quality was last updated is now displayed. Look in the Portfolios section of the library -- select the "Roster of Quality" portfolio, and you'll see the "Last updated date:" just below that.

You can also manually update the Roster listing by selecting File > Update Complete Roster. The Complete Roster of Quality Companies is generated on StockCentral each weekend, and the program automatically checks once a week to download the latest version. Depending on your schedule of stock analysis, it's possible that you might not have seen the most recent Complete Roster in your program. But now, in version 6.1, you can both know how current the listing is, and also refresh the list at will to ensure that you're viewing current companies. (Note: You must be a StockCentral subscriber for this feature to be enabled.)

On page 2 of the Stock Study form, we've cleaned up and streamlined much of the text. This should make the page much easier to read and interpreted. In Section 3, you'll see Current, Average, and Projected P/E Ratios displayed, along with the PEG Ratio and the Trailing Twelve Months (TTM) and Future Twelve Months (FTM) EPS. In Section 5, the total return and yield figures are nicely organized, not typed in as some afterthought.

We've made a few repairs to features that weren't working quite right, as well.

Institutional and insider ownership figures are now updated correctly when you update company data. This only affects data services that have this information, such as StockCentral's data service.

In some cases, trend lines on the graph were being displayed incorrectly for companies that you'd saved to your library (even though they displayed properly when you first downloaded the company data!). That was an annoying problem, so we're happy that it's now been fixed. (Of course, if you discover otherwise, please let us know ASAP!)

On the Portfolio Review Report, the "% Sales" and "% Change" headers in the Pre-Tax Profit column were reversed, and they've now been put in the right places. Funny, this was also an issue in Investor's Toolkit 5, but I guess that everyone knew what we meant regardless of what the headers actually said. Thanks to Ralph Seger for pointing out this little error.

One final minor change: In the Print dialog box, we've removed the "Print forms using black" option, since black is the new green. Since the form grid lines are always black now on the screen, there's no need for an option to print them that way.

How to Update

If you're already running Toolkit 6, the program will automatically check for updates each time you start the program. You must be connected to the Internet, of course, in order for the program to detect, download, and install the update.

You may also manually check for updates by choosing Help > Check for Updates from the Toolkit 6 menu.

Follow the instructions to download and install the update.

When the process is finished, select Help > About Toolkit from the program menu. Version 6.1.0 should be displayed as the current version. This confirms that the update installed correctly.

Upgrade to Toolkit 6.1 Today!

If you're not among the more than one thousand investors who have already moved to Toolkit 6, I urge you to buy or upgrade before December 31, 2008 in order to receive the best prices. Visit:

Yes this is quite helpful to know what is being fixed. I see the sec 2 b and c headings don't run into each other anymore.
