I purchased a copy of take stock 4 a number of years ago and use it to help do an initial screening of stocks to study further. Lately its been acting up. For instance, I can not get a price for BBY, HANS, AND BBV. I know these stocks are priced as I can get prices from other sources, including the take stock on the internet site. I updated take stock to fit the new data.

David,

Yes, it was a number of years ago, as Toolkit 4 was replaced by Toolkit 5 also a number of years ago. I'll let the folks from ICLUBcentral jump in with the actual details, but it's been several years since they even stopped supporting the product.

I think you are seeing the results of a change made by the source of the price data. I know that it's been a couple of years since Toolkit 4 could reliably even update data from subscribed data services.

May I be so bold as to suggest that it's high time you upgraded to Toolkit 5. I'd recommend that you download the demo, put it through its paces, and decide if the additional features are worthwhile. For my money, the portfolio management features are worth the upgrade price all by themselves. I plan to use that feature quite a bit in a presentation I'll be making at InvestEd in August.

And, your question is timely! I just posted an update on our discounts page. You can upgrade to Toolkit 5 for quite a decent price between now and the end of July.

David and StockCentral Host:

Let me jump in here. I believe David is referring to Take $tock
4 and not the Toolkit. And there have been some changes since Take $tock 4 was
first rolled out. Whether you have the NAIC version or the
Inve$tWare/ICLUBcentral version will make a difference (I suspect you have the
original version). And, the data that was first provided was Inve$tware Data (Reuters);
then it became BI (Compustat) data; and most recently, it has been hard-wired to the StockCentral (Hemscott) data.

In the course of making all of those changes, there have been
several small but somewhat annoying loose ends and, until and unless you’re
upgraded to the most recent version of Take $tock 4, you’ll probably find
that some of the companies that were supported in previous data sources can’t
be found in the current data set. Or at least, some of them may have different tickers, or some other reason for not successfully updating.

Also, there were some recent issues with a change in the source of pricing data that would also carry problems into this issue.

Best bet, call ICLUBcentral support (after they come back,
refreshed, from next week’s retreat ) and ask them to guide you
through whatever steps you need to take to bring you up to date. You’ll
probably want to download the most recent demo and activate it with a key they’ll
provide for you. That will take you through all of the updates without having to work through them.

I believe ICLUBcentral has recently been able to free up some of
their engineering resources to begin the work of upgrading that product so I
have high hopes of seeing some good things come down the pike…probably
first with the on-line version, and then, hopefully, the NAIC version (should NAIC choose to endorse it).

Thanks for pointing out my poor reading, Ellis!  I was, indeed, referring to Toolkit and not to Take Stock.  So, you can both mostly ignore most of my message.

And, just to add to the confusion, Hemscott is now Morningstar!

Your advice regarding help from ICLUBcentral's Tech Support folks is quite on the mark!

Thanks for getting back. It was Take $tock 4 that I'm having problems with. [By the way I also have Tool Kit 5 and Stock Analyst, both that are helpful in different ways and are working now]. I will take Ernest's advice and contact support as he suggests. I am getting prices on most stocks but four or five don't seem to price out.
