I'm getting an error in Toolkit 6 when trying to update my data.  See attached picture of error.

I just checked and DOW is working fine in the data service.

Are you able to update other companies?

What data service are you using, StockCentral or BetterInvesting?

What steps are you taking before you get that error message?

Hi Doug,

I'm getting the error on all compaines I'm tryng to update.  I'm using the StockCentral data service.  I tried deleting and re-entering my username and password, but no luck there either.

Are you able to update prices? That doesn't require a login. If you can't update prices then it may be that your computer security program or firewall (such as Norton Internet Security) is blocking Toolkit from accessing the Internet. That would be my first place to check.

I assume that you know your username and password for StockCentral since you are logging in here at the website, yes?

 Hi Randy,

I would be curious to know if you can start a study on a new company? Please try opening Toolkit, clicking on the Begin a new stock study from the Toolkit Home Page, and then selecting Use Subscribed data files.

From the error message you're seeing when trying to do the update, I suspect you'll run into an error when trying to start a new study using this method, but would like to make sure.

Hi Sean,

I can't start a new stock study either. Seems like something might be corrupt... Is there a way to retrieve the unlock code, and do a reinstall?

This looks like Toolkit is being blocked from the Internet. Are you running an internet security program or firewall on your program? You will probably need to tell it to let Toolkit access the internet.

Hi Doug,

I tried shutting down firewall, anti-virus with no luck, and I haven't added any new programs/software to the computer since using Toolkit last month, all my data (prices) show 02/08/2013. I've downloaded the Toolkit Demo to another computer and it works fine, is there a way to transfer the unlock code to the other computer?

I found the Support Ticket that shows how to retrieve the serial number from Toolkit 6, I will try that tonight.

 Hi Randy,

Not sure if you found the same note I was thinking of, but a long time back I wrote Support Ticket 7, on moving Toolkit data from one computer to another.

Hey Sean, I was actually looking at Support Ticket 62 that you had posted. I can look at Support Ticket 7 to seee if that applies as well.

Hey Guys,

I'm running a program called Advanced System Care from iobit that tried adding on a program for Maleware. I got a popup last night to download something for that program, and I removed the program and then opened Toolkit and everything appears to be working fine now. Just thought I'd post that to end the thread!

Thanks for your time!

 Hi Randy,

Thank you for posting that note. I ran into an issue with a member this afternoon who also happened to have the IObit Malware program, and was running into an error as well. We were able to get Toolkit working by turning off the IObit.

Out of curiosity, I didn't see a way to make an adjsutment to allow specific programs in IObit; did you make a specific adjustment to allow Toolkit, or did you just take the program out ?

IObit Malware's website says:
If there are any items which are suspected as False Positive or you want to keep in the scan result, you can right click on those items and then select "Add to Ignore". The items in Ignore List will not be scanned anymore. It's also recommended that you contact us through our Online Support to report the False Positive.

I removed the Maleware program, and moved forward that way. I have been running the iobit program for quite some time, but the add-on for the Maleware portion must have been part of a recent update.

That was one of the oddest parts about all this; we got into a section of the software that showed Quarantined programs, but Toolkit wasn't listed there. From the time spent on a remote connection, there seem to be two places where it causes problems:

  • Accessing the Internet
  • Accessing the database

Unlike Norton security that seems to pop up warnings regularly, the IObit Malware program didn't give any sign we could see that it had specifically recognized Toolkit as a threat. I could be far off base with the analogy, but it seems like the program puts a padlock on certain things, and then essentially ignores those areas unless some other program tries specifically to break the lock.
