Online tools vs. installed tools

My club is trying to decide between online vs. installed investment tools. Can anyone comment on the differences between:
1. Toolkit 5 and StockCentral
2. Club Accounting Online vs. Club Accounting 3
I much prefer the convenience of a web app - would not like to have to deal with compatibility issues, computers dying, upgrades of hardward and licenses, bugs and patches, and being tied to a particular member and that particular member's computer. We each take on the role of treasurer in turns, and there is member turnover.
Are the installed version significantly better than the online tools, and so much so that they warrant the hassle of getting the installed software versions?
I understand that there are free trials, but does anyone have experience with this issue and have comments? I would appreciate hearing them.

1. Toolkit 5 and StockCentral StockCentral's tools don't (yet) include something as useful and powerful as Toolkit. I think that Toolkit and StockCentral are great together.
2. Club Accounting Online vs. Club Accounting 3 It's my understanding that the current versions of Club Accounting and Online Clue Accounting are the the same in functionality. There's are "look and feel" differences. I've been using Online Club Accounting for several years, and I'm quite happy with it.

I like online tools, but there are those (decreasing) times where you need to so something and you aren't connected. You'll have to trade off the difference.
Are the installed version significantly better than the online tools, and so much so that they warrant the hassle of getting the installed software versions? IMHO, there aren't such significant differences where it would matter, provided that the online and desktop tools are "similar." I not that there's now an online version of Photoshop!
I understand that there are free trials, but does anyone have experience with this issue and have comments? I would appreciate hearing them.

Linda, in my opinion, I would suggest Club
Accounting Online, since your information would then be available to your
designated authorized members from any computer, so you would never be unable to
access it, as you could become if your home computer hard drive died on
you.
ToolKit and StockCentral aren't quite apples to
apples. Toolkit is a software program that uses data service available
through StockCentral, but StockCentral has a whole lot more to offer besides the
data service. StockCentral does have the elementary TakeStock online
stock study program which is a very helpful resource for newbies. But once
you get beyond a basic understanding, ToolKit is a much more satisfactory
program for entering your own judgments in, and keeping up with your
portfolio.

There are other choices available for online tools, in addition to the
choices already mentioned. In particular, I suggest that you check out
the following online tools:
For online club accounting, I highly recommend bivio.com .
I prefer bivio's approach to valuation dates and find it generally
easier to use than www.myiclub.com .
For SSG software, stockfundas.stockcentral.com
(recently acquired by StockCentral) is worth a look. One nice feature
is that it's very easy to share completed SSGs with others.
biwiki.editme.com/Tools lists all your choices for SSG software.
biwiki.editme.com/ClubAccountingTools does the same for online
club accounting.

stockfundas has been aquired? when? will it be showing up on the stockcentral site anytime soon? seems like it would be ready to roll out immediately.

Danny, Stockfundas is not showing as part of StockCentral.com yet, it is still a stand-alone site at the moment. The link is http://stockfundas.stockcentral.com/main.aspx It is currently available for folks to sign up for free ans use the site. We are planning an integration into SC, but as you siad, it is good to go as it stands now, so we have it available. John McHugh
