Is there a problem with this data?  I get an error: "Files appears to be an invalid format".  Then TK shuts down with "run time error 5, invalid procedure call or argument:

Thanks,

Hi Martin,

ACAS is classified by Hemscott as a closed-end fund. Our analysis tools are not designed to analyze this type of investment, thus we don't provide the data. We do have an issue filed regarding the program crash upon bad ticker import. We do not have plans in the immediate future to provide data for CEF's, but if a compelling point can be made for us to provide this data we'd be happy to discuss it further.

Dave,

Are we talking about the same company?   My reference is to American Capital Strategies, Ltd. (ACAS).  I have prepared an ssg in the past, but I see now that is from NAIC data.  I can update the price with your data.  The error occurs when I do a data update.

Marty,

Your problem is that we don't have an SSG file for ACAS. The error is Toolkit's response to "no file."

Hi,

We had a bug filed on this in May, which i reviewed before i posted previously. At that time, the data provided by hemscott identified it as type CE (closed-end fund), which we don't include in the feed, which is why there isn't an ssg (and why i erroneously referred to it as such). We will correct the classification and notify hemscott, hope to have the data for you by next Monday. thanks for letting us know!

I just fell into this problem area as a result of my daily "screening" activity on Yahoo.  They recommend ACAS as a "Top 5" investment, the Take Stock tool indicates it is an invalid symbol.

That - and similar messages that don't reflect the actual condition serve only to discredit your tool.  Hopefully, a more comprehensive, more accurate indication of the present staus of the investment.

Our data provider, Hemscott, finds that ACAS is actually a CEF:

http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/817473/000119312507177632/d10q.htm

(page 39)

We currently do not provide SSG, or any other data, for Closed End Funds.

In regard to:

"That - and similar messages that don't reflect the actual condition serve only to discredit your tool.  Hopefully, a more comprehensive, more accurate indication of the present staus of the investment."

We will update the "Ticker not found" message in Take Stock to be more friendly and provide a link to the 'infirmary' for data reporting issues.  We can do the same for the data page.  Please let me know if there are other places that you note unfriendly error messages.  Thanks!
