Good Afternoon,

As folks have noticed, Toolkit and TakeStock have not been able to update prices for the past few days; we've been working on an update to fix this, and it's now available.

For Toolkit 5 users:
By default, Toolkit will check for updates when you open it up, so you shouldn't have to do more than let the update download and install, then click the Done button when it finishes.
If you open up Toolkit and it doesn't find the update, you can also go up to the Help menu near the top of the window, and select Check For Updates. From there it's the same process, let the update download and install, then click Done.
In either case, after the update, close Toolkit and then re-open it to confirm that the update is in place. When you re-open Toolkit, go up to the Help menu near the top of the window, and choose ' About Investor's Toolkit '; the new version, 5.1.4 should be listed.

If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP and run into any trouble downloading the update, please go to iclub.com click SUPPORT, then Investor's Toolkit. Follow the steps there for updating in case of error 429 or 430; these steps will make sure that you get the update correctly

If you are using Windows Vista and run into any trouble, make sure your copy of Toolkit is set to run as admin. If you aren't sure of the steps to do this, go to iclub.com and click the link for Read Our Compatibility Report. Follow the steps on this page to set Toolkit to run as admin.

For TakeStock users:
Close TakeStock and make sure to reboot your computer.
After rebooting, open your web browser and go to http://www.iclub.com/support/downloads.asp
Scroll down to the heading Patches & Updates:
Under this heading, find the link for the ICLUB TakeStock Update.
Using your right mouse button, click on the link, ICLUB TakeStock Update.
Save the file to a location you can remember.

For Novices:
a) With the left mouse button, click on the term SAVE AS, or SAVE TARGET AS.
b) Click the DESKTOP button on the left hand side of the Save File window.(If you are using Windows Vista and do not see Desktop as an option, click BROWSE FOLDERS near the bottom left of the window to show the Desktop option)
c) Click SAVE on the lower right-hand corner of the window; this will save the file, TakeStock.update.4.1.2.exe, to your Desktop.

To start the update process just double-click on the file just downloaded.
For Novices:
a) Go to your Desktop.
b) Locate the new icon, which says TakeStock.update.4.1.2.exe under it.
c) With the left mouse button, double-click on it.

The update process will begin. Continue to click NEXT and proceed through each step.

When the update process is complete, you may delete the TakeStock.update.4.1.2.exe file.

As always, if you have any questions, go to www.iclub.com/support then click on the envelope to submit a support request
or, give us a call at 1-617-661-2582 Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 6:00pm eastern time

Thank you,

I just attempted to update my TakeStock with the price update patch, but the updater said that TakeStock was not installed on my machine.  Of course it is!  My TS is version 4 -- is that not an eligible version?

Hi Kathleen,

So far the only time we have seen this is for folks using the BI edition of Take Stock, which we are still working on the update for. Probably the easiest way to tell for sure is that when you have Take Stock open, the BI edition will have a button along the top labeled Wizard. If this is the case, then the current update will not work, as it is set only to look for the ICLUB Take Stock program.
When the update for the BI Take Stock is ready, I'll be posting back in the Infirmary again to let folks know. In the meantime, I do encourage you to take advantage of the online Take Stock you get as part of your StockCentral membership.

Thanks all,

Sean

Sean,

Thanks for your quick reply.  No, I am not using the BI version of TakeStock, it's the old InvestWare TakeStock4.

I have looked at the online TakeStock and I think it's a wonderful feature of the site.  The only reason I still look (occasionally) at my desktop TS is because I'm still using BI data in Toolkit and I'm not in a hurry to change (inertia -- some call it laziness).  Comparing my judgments to a version of TS that is using a different data source is not exactly apples-to-apples and (laziness again) I don't want to have to be ever-alert for data differences.

I still don't understand why the updater thinks I don't have TakeStock installed.

Kathleen,

Ah. It appears you have found a bit of a plot twist.

I checked with one of the folks here responsible for getting the update working, and he confirmed that yes, the updater will come back with the same message for the Investware Take Stock as the BetterInvesting one.
The reason it says you don't have Take Stock installed is that it is set to only look for one thing; the copy of ICLUB Take Stock.
If it doesn't find the particular copy it was made for, then you get that message back saying there isn't anything for it to update.

There was a push a while back to get folks over to the ICLUB Take Stock, which required getting a new serial number to go with the new program.
I personally do not have these, and will be getting your information over to the gentleman who does (Yes, it's Irving Roth, you got me). He's out of the office Thursday, but we should be able to get this sorted out in short order when he returns.

This also goes for anyone else who happens to have a copy of the Investware Take Stock. Give us a ring, or put in a support request; its time to get you updated.

Thanks all,
