Hi everyone,

Someone asked me a question today that I could not answer.  Here goes: Is there a way to have Hemscott data files automatically load in Stock Analyst?  I.E.  Open Stock Analyst and import the data, rather than having to come to StockCentral to dowsnload individual files.

If that's possible, please give me the instructions.  Also, if that possible, I also need the instructions for updating the files in SA.

Thanks!

The answers to your questions include the words yes, no and maybe.
  1. It isn't possible to type a ticker symbol into Stock Analyst and have the program download the data and open it automatically.
  2. It isn't possible to do an update directly from Stock Analyst.
But ...
  1. If you click on a link to an SSG file at StockCentral and you have Stock Analyst configured to automatically open SSG files, you can download a file that way.
  2. To do an update, you'll have to manually download all of the SSG files into a folder on your computer's disk, and then point Stock Analyst at the folder to do the update.  (Right now, you'll have to manually download the files one at a time.)

Thank you Joe.  That was helpful.  We just inducted a new member with SA.  The rest of us use Toolkit. I wasn't sure what to tell her since I wasn't familiar with the program.

It's also worth noting that you can set Stock Analyst (SA) to be the default .ssg program.

With SA open, go to Options > Preferences.
With the preferences window open, click on the tab named File Associations.
Make sure there's a check box in SSG; click Apply if it's available, and then OK.
Close Stock Analyst.

Now, the next time the browser (or Windows) tries to open an ssg file, it will know to try using Stock Analyst first.
