Hi:  I'm Nancy from OH and am using "take stock" for the first time.  My husband and I put in at least twenty symbols and can't find one that the software likes other than Kohl's.  Some of the ones we entered were top companies picked from the Dow and tons of sectors, picked based on charts too, that are steadily rising for a year or more.  Is the program too tough on the stocks or are we the only one that experienced this?  To us this means the market is overbought and it's not the time to invest.

Nancy

Try LOW, UNH, KNX or ORLY to see if T$ does not offer at least a smile.

Welcome, Nancy!

My answer to your questions begins with a question. Are you familiar with the style of investing that "we" advocate here? It is based on buying quality growth companies, buying them at good prices, and holding to take advantage of price appreciation over time, assuming that the fundamentals also hold up over time.

Yes, you are right that Take Stock is a stickler for quality and value, and punishes companies that can't meet it's exacting standards. You can learn how Take Stock works buy reading the help information provided with the program. You can also get many other details by reading Ellis Traub's "Take Stock" book. You'll find it for sale at ICLUBcentral.com.

There are some other things that you might find useful. ICLUBcentral's "Roster of Quality Companies" is published monthly. That will help you identify good companies. Finding really good companies at good prices is a more difficult proposition, but hanging around here might help in that regard, too. Also, you might want to check the companies our 5 "star" analysts are including in their portfolios of Stocks to Own in 2007 and Beyond.

Also consider some of our partners. Manifest Investing practices investing like we do. Their system rates companies for quality and projected return. Our other partner, stockfundas, provides an online tool that you can use to analyze companies.

And ... Dan Hess has pointed you toward 4 pretty good companies. Some of them are on sale now at good prices.

Overall, I hope that you'll find that StockCentral is a great place to swap ideas, further your education, etc. Just ask lots of questions, because you'll get lots of great answers!

Joe,
Why is it that I can't print the TSSW from the Take Stock tab. when I bring up the TSSW front or back, there are "update" and "print" options but nothing happens when I click on them. I was trying to compare the TSSW for LLL with the one previously submitted.
Thanks
James

James,

When I click on "print" the browser opens up a printer dialog box that allows me to select the printer and print the form. I've tried this in both IE and Firefox with the same results. Are you having trouble printing from other applications?

Joe,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I had some trouble finding this thread or I would have responded sooner. Yes, apparantly my printing problem is with the print tab on IE7- it doesn't work!!!. I removed IE7 and it works okay with IE6.

I appreciate your assistance

James

For what it's worth, I tested with IE7 and the printing worked just fine.

I just signed up for this site, real nice and helpful. How do I find the "Complete Roster of Quality Companies," ? It sounds like a great way to find a worthy field of stock to choose from.

Also how do you start your own thread?

Thanks for the help.

John,

Welcome to StockCentral!

The "Complete Roster of Quality Companies" is available at ICLUB.com to those who have a current support agreement for software.

But ... you've asked the question at a very auspicious time. I can't give away any special news, but I will say that you should check in here tomorrow or, possibly Thursday, for some important news that bears on this question ...

As for starting a thread, when you are at the forum level (you see the subjects of various threads in a forum) look for the link that lets you add a new topic.
