If my understanding is correct, my Stock Analyst software cannot read .itk files while Toolkit can export in either the .ssg format or .itk format. I find that SSG's are often posted in Forums in the .itk format and I cannot use them. To maximize the utility of postings, I suggest that Toolkit users post SSG's in the .ssg format. Is there any advantage to either the Toolkit users who are posting, or those who are receiving files, if the .itk format is used?

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, my older toolkit version can only download and view the files in the ssg format also.

We'll try to make sure that all of the uploaded files are available in SSG format.  If you find one that isn't, let us know!

(But give me a day or two to get started on this!)

I thought they made the itk format universally available to all iclub investing programs?

Joe...an example related to this topic can be seen in the threads associated with WAG, also within the current Active Topic about SUBX. There are many such examples throughout the stock ticker forums. The Toolkit analyses are generally provided as .itk files which Stock Analyst software cannot read. It is not possible for me to review what these members are thinking. Is StockCentral going to monitor all threads and provide an .ssg format file when a member only provides an .itk format file? Or will Stock Analyst users have to depend on the member initiating a thread to provide the file in .ssg format? The latter would probably be done only some of the time. I think one of the most appealing features of StockCentral will be the opportunity to interact with other members relative to SSG evaluations. If we all don't speak the same language, or have a third party interpreter, we may as well have separate "Toolkit" and "Stock Analyst" forums for ticker symbols. In that case neither forum would afford its members all that the StockCentral concept has to offer.

Alan,

There are several interrelated answers to your question.  Here are several ...

  1. Yes, it has been a week sinced I asked that you give me a couple of days to start the process.  I haven't forgotten.
  2. In the short term, we will be providing SSG files equivalent to ITK and other uploaded files.  I hope that this process can be automated at some point.
  3. I have several other alternatives.  These include educating participants that SSG files (longer-term we'll likely switch to SDF files, as these will be interchangeable between all of the ICLUBcentral software).  The other alternative (one that I don't want to exercise) is to prevent uploading those other file formats.  I'd rather have the uploads and deal with the conversion rather than discourage uploads.
  4. Perhaps you've also seen Doug's references to building consensus estimates from uploaded files.  We'll be doing this, too.
Thanks for your patience!

(I also converted the uploaded WAG.ITK files and added WAG.SSG files to the messages posted by others.  Enjoy!)

Joe:

Thanks for the immediate response and the attention you are giving to this topic.
Also the WAG.SSG files are appreciated.

Joe and Others on the SC team:

Our whole club is trying out SC, and we have some observations/questions/requests:

1)We like using the .itk format because our Notes section copies. We use the Notes section extensively for communication and recording of information about the stocks we research. If the .ssg format does now permit "Notes" to copy, please advise. Ditto if we decide to go to a universal form. We strongly urge that the "Notes" section from Toolkit be incorporated.

2. Many of us use different libraries to separate our Value Line, OPS, and now, SC analyses. Is there an easier way to switch between libraries that could be incorporated in TK5 updates? Likewise switching between SC feed and OPS feed?
Right now OPS seems to have the more extensive feed, but we like what we are seeing on the SC site.

3. Can an easy-to-access link to the "movie" and set-up instructions be shown on the first screen you get when you enter "www.stockcentral.com"?

This has been a terrific effort on the part of so many of you--thank you!

I'm glad that you're finding StockCentral useful, Carol!

I'm not suggesting that you stop using ITK files.  But ... when you upload a file here, if you could also upload an SSG version, that will help.  If not, we'll do the conversion.  It's not a big deal.

As for our data feed, could you go into a few more details about "more extensive"?

I would also point out that there are several different providers of software now. For example, the software I publish can read .itk files.

I have nothing against .itk files, but the format is a proprietary format (and the details have not been published).

So both Mac and Windows users that use the Stock Investment Guide would be locked out if only .itk files were uploaded. (SSG files are interchangeable with all software programs.)
